NEW YORK CITY KID WHO'S NOW A NYC ADULT
DIGITAL ARCHIVE PROJECT PROMPT NUMBER FIVE: FUNDS OF KNOWLEDGE
I am my own muse. I am the subject I know best.
The subject I want to know better

This prompt is about the cultural funds of knowledge we carry in our bodies.
Write into poetic form the ways we are a promise to our community. The ability to explore and define one's purpose early in life has monumental impact on our future. I know this because Aspira was able to do this for me when I became a part of it at 15.
This prompt is accompanied by a poem written by one of my favorite writing mentors in the NYC writing community, Peggy Robles-Alvarado. In her poem, "When I Became La Promesa”, we encounter a speaker who sits within the truths of the cultural treasure trove her family and community endowed her with from a very young age.
Consider thinking about the cultural funds of knowledge that you were blessed with from your family and community and how they shape the promise you represent in your community.
Write a poem about the promise you are to your community.
