This prompt is about the ways we center ourselves in the presence of so much
movement in our society.
Write a list poem about the ways you center yourself. These past years have included so many societal events that require our full attention and place us in survival mode. As an educator, these conversations happen in my high school English classroom as part of our day to day activities. It's important to carve out space for this dialogue and for writing about what we are witnessing. This prompt is accompanied by a how to poem “If You Are Over Staying Woke” by Morgan Parker. In this poem, the speaker renders on the page the simple ways we can center ourselves after experiencing the world we are witnessing. Write a poem about the ways you center yourself amidst all of the chaos, uncertainty, and raucous. It should take the form of a how to list poem.
